The News of the World Scandal in 2011 left the nation spinning. Upon the lips of every plumber, project manager and politician was the question of how much freedom we should give the press. Some would consider controlling it a step towards Nazi Germany's propaganda. Others would say it filters out lies and deceit in what we read.
On the one hand some journalists abuse the rights to privacy of the individual; an activity that can only be reasonably equated as a form of tabloid espionage. On the other, to erect barriers to other journalists' work would be to inhibit their ability to find out and report the truth for the betterment of society.
We hear the thoughts of someone who has experienced a government-controlled press in Singapore. And it has worked.
