comparing traditions across cultures is always full of surprises
The Damara tribe in the northern half of Namibia are no exception. I sat down to learn about how two traditionally become united in holy matrimony. Throughout, I could not help but reflect on my own cultures strange traditions.
Whose to say one is right, the other wrong? I prefer to think most traditions are not either; they are just strange. The particular traditions mentioned herein may go a little beyond that.

A few things to bare in mind. The first is Namibians, including the Damara are heavily influenced by Christainity which has spread there. A second is this is the tribe's traditional way of aproahcing marraige. Though it is still widely paractised it is not by all.
Unfortunately, for the poor ladies to the left hand side of this writing the Damara's traditions do not bode well for them.
