In 1633, Galileo Galilei was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Catholic Church for his fathering of the scientific method.

In 1543, Nicholas Copernicus' De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium, told the world that the Earth revolves around the Sun and not vice versa. Martin Luther, who began the Protestant Reformation, denounced Copernicus' work and the Catholic Church banned it altogether.

Some parts of the world are seeing science and Christianity clash on a more frequent and radical basis than ever before. Other parts are witnessing an ever-growing collaboration. But where does this clashing and collaboration occur, and what does the future hold for these historically fractious neighbours?

The five main points of contention between science and Christianity this
programme concentrates on are:

1.    Evidence used by one to justify its beliefs as true knowledge.
2.    Claims of being absolutely, literally true.
3.    Segregation caused.
4.    Centralised power held by institutions of each.
5.    Contradictions in the sacred texts.

Can these old nemeses become new allies?

In this programme, I look into the biggest grudges science and Christianity have conventionally held. I speak to Christian officials, atheists, professors and followers of the faith.
