A tree barren of life. But could it re-blossom?

Today, the HIV and AIDS crisis is often referred to as the latest pandemic humanity has endured.

The region that has been worst hit is Southern Africa. Looking down the list of countries with the highest HIV rates, it is not until you reach number ten that you see a country outside of Southern Africa.

Unfortunately, HIV/AIDS have themselves to be more complicated than a mere infection, with consequences reaching far beyond the biology of the body. In fact they reveal many other underlying troubles present in those communities and countries.

Adding to this is the way the outbreak has changed how people see and treat one another.

Needless to say, it has turned may people's lives upside down. Yet it does seem that the worst is in the past. Since the outbreak's peak in the mid 2000's governments, NGO's and international bodies have taken massive strides towards fighting HIV and AIDS.

Let alone the people of Southern Africa, many of whom have been on the front lines every day. I went to meet them to find out first hand how the outbreak is being dealt with.
